A section of the M6 has partially reopened after it was closed following a lorry fire but motorists have been warned of continued delays.
The blaze broke out at 02:30 BST and the northbound carriageway was shut between Junction 22 for the Winwick Interchange in Cheshire and Junction 23 for Haydock Island.
The road has now reopened but two lanes remain closed, National Highways said.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and police have been at the scene.
The lane closures are expected to remain in place until the evening, with a full closure planned overnight for emergency resurfacing.
Motorists have been advised to allow extra journey time.
